Restorative Justice – Unpacking the Opportunities and Challenges

  • What questions to ask and when.
  • Efficient note-taking while listening.
  • How to detect deception.

Peter Thorburn

Pete triumphed over a 23-year battle with addiction, including 8 years of dependency on methamphetamine. After getting out of jail in 2005 he got clean, went to university, and qualified as a counsellor before continuing on to specialize in addictions.

Methamphetamine
This presentation will provide insight into the world of methamphetamine: why it’s used, what to look for, how to keep yourselves safe.

Donny Riki

Donny is a Māori psychotherapist of Ngāpuhi and Ngāti Paoa descent. Her critical analysis of violence is informed by 500 years of collective indigenous resistance, whakapapa wisdom and her clinical experience as a psychotherapist. She has presented these wānanga in Canada, Sweden, and Australia , and stands in solidarity with other indigenous nations against genocide.

Mana-informed RJ practice
In this wānanga Donny emphasises mana as central to social life and well-being, by shifting the lens from Western benign trauma- informed approaches, and discusses on-the-ground social justice practices of resistance.

Registration for the workshops closes at 5pm on Monday 15th April 2024.
